Staff Pick: Don't ignore Windhand any longer

Columbus Alive

Sometimes, you ignore a band at your own peril. One prime example: When the Richmond sludge-doom powerhouse Windhand played Columbus a few months back, I let the concert slip past me.

Whoops. I spent the ensuing weeks listening to rave reviews of that show from local metalheads, passionate praise from the national music press and, finally, the band’s sophomore LP, Soma, on repeat, in slack-jawed wonder. It’s 75 minutes of heavy psych swagger smothered in chunky peanut butter and black mold.

Needless to say, when Windhand plays The Shrunken Head this Monday with Plow Horse, I ain’t skipping it. Neither should you.
