Concert preview: CD102.5 Holiday Show arrives with gifts for rock fans of all stripes

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

The local radio mainstay celebrates the holiday season with a fairly eclectic bill headlined by ambitious British rockers Foals, which channeled some of the grandeur of early U2 on its latest album Holy Fire, and Washed Out, a.k.a. Georgia native Ernest Greene, who has a fondness for gurgling, vaguely psychedelic soft-rock anthems that often come on like the antithesis of ambition.

The bill is rounded out by California skate-punks Fidlar, whose self-titled debut serves as the perfect soundtrack for pounding cheap canned beer, the comparatively spacey Wild Cub, which took a mellower turn on the synth-pop-driven Youth, and Columbus vet Harold "Happy" Chichester, who battled Bell's palsy and pushed onward to release the long-in-the-works Torchwood Loop earlier this year.
