Staff Pick: Local rapper P. Blackk strikes a balance with Two

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

P. Blackk undoubtedly brought a high energy level when he performed a brief, three-song mini-set during a November showcase at Circus. But given the time constraints, the local rapper didn't have a chance to go deep, and his songs were limited to chest-thumping boasts and brash dismissals of haters.

Expect the talented MC to utilize a much wider color palette when he hits Ace of Cups on Tuesday, Dec. 24, pairing these cutting tracks with a more studied, introspective side that emerged earlier this year on Two.

"I want to know what my future holds," he spit on "The Break-Up Song." If he continues to strike a balance between the tough and the tender he should expect big things.
