Staff Pick: Opposites attract when Connections and EYE play Ace of Cups on New Year's Eve

Anyone still looking for something to do this New Year’s Eve can officially call off the search. Two of the city’s best bands — Connections and EYE — join together to highlight a killer New Year’s bill at Ace of Cups.

In many ways the two groups are a study in contrasts. EYE’s droning metal tunes tend to unfold slowly over long stretches of time. The title track from the band’s latest full-length, Center of the Sun, for one, builds over the course of almost 20 earth-quaking minutes, coming across like a galaxy being born. Connections, in contrast, rarely lets things linger beyond two or three minutes. Indeed, in the time it takes EYE to perform a single song, the uber-prolific crew could probably bash out another new album of impossibly melodic indie-rock gems.

George Brazil also performs, and Envelope headlines.
