Concert preview: Local musicians bring the best of Weezer to life

Weezer fans are generally split in two camps. Half glom towards the power-pop band’s debut, The Blue Album, a more streamlined effort filled with radio-ready hooks. The other half lean toward Pinkerton, a weirder, more insular effort awash in confessional lyrics. Fortunately fans won’t have to choose when The Pinkertones hit Kobo this weekend, since the local musicians plan to perform one album at each show during the two-night stand, with a coin flip Friday determining which of the two is up first.

The Pinkertones consist of Alex Weinhardt (The Black Antler), Benjamin Schreiber (Blacklist All-Stars), Jacob Wooten (Vis a Vis) and Philip Cogley (The Saturday Giant). The DewDroppers kicks off the Friday show, and Herzog and Sleep Fleet open Saturday.
