A number of things have a tendency to slow amidst Ohio's frigid winter weather, including blood flow to the toes, traffic and new concert announcements.

Even so, a handful of new shows have surfaced in recent weeks. Here some of the concerts that will keep music fans raging well into 2014.

New York rapper Action Bronson - he of the impressive girth and Ghostface-like flow - is set to visit A&R Music Bar on Thursday, Jan. 23. Tickets for the all-ages show are $20 in advance/$22 at the door. Prepare for the concert by downloading the skilled MC's latest mixtape Blue Chips 2 right here.

On the other end of the musical spectrum, classically trained violinist Lindsey Stirling stops at LC Pavilion on Wednesday, June 11, which seems light years away considering the single-digit temperatures looming next week. Tickets for that show are $28 in advance/$30 at the door.

Also visiting LC Pavilion is California indie-rock quintet Young the Giant, which is scheduled to release its sophomore record Mind Over Matter on Jan. 21. Tickets for the March 25 show are $25 in advance/$27 at the door.

Other recently announced shows include Switchfoot, which hits Newport Music Hall for a concert on Thursday, April 3, and Mindless Self Indulgence, which visits the same venue a few days earlier on Saturday, March 29. Tickets for Switchfoot are $22.50 in advance/$25 at the door and go on sale on Monday, Jan. 13. Tickets for Mindless Self Indulgence are $23.50 in advance/$25 at the door and are available for purchase now.

Finally, anyone fond of the warm spring and summer days when the concert scene shifts outdoors can start daydreaming about the 10th annual Nelsonville Music Festival, which runs May 29 through June 1 at Robbins Crossing on the campus of Hocking College in Nelsonville. The fest recently announced a number of acts joining previously announced headliner The Avett Brothers, including The Men, Shakey Graves, Pokey LaFarge and Columbus' own Saintseneca, which is prepping for the April 1 release of its excellent new album Dark Arc. Visit for more information or to purchase tickets, and check out the video for Saintseneca's hypnotic "Uppercutter" below.
