Concert preview: Dan White Sextet to make more than background music at Natalie's

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

In an August interview with Alive, band leader Dan White said "I really don't want someone to even consider this as background music." He'll have his work cut out for him when the rising jazz sextet hits the stage at Natalie's, a restaurant-slash-concert space where the food can occasionally steal some of the spotlight from the performers. Judging by new songs like "People Power," a hypnotic burner built around White's dreamy saxophone, the group should be up to the challenge.

Can't make it out for this concert? The group is set to return to Natalie's for another show on Saturday, February 22, so go ahead and mark your calendar now.
