Concert preview: Wild Cub at The Basement

On Wild Cub’s debut album, Youth, the Nashville electro-pop quintet breezes through 15 cuts that wouldn’t sound out-of-place playing over the credits of a classic 1980s John Hughes film.

The band’s songs are almost universally lush, awash in cascading drums, dense gardens of synthesizer and singer Keegan DeWitt’s dreamy vocals. Indeed, the title of the crew’s breakout song, “Thunder Clatter,” is a bit misleading, since these tunes could more accurately be described as quiet storms than raging fronts.
