Concert preview: Teen grows up with The Way and Color

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

The gals in Teen are closely connected. So close, in fact, the band's press photos essentially double as family portraits. The Brooklyn quartet is anchored by sisters Teeny, Katherine and Lizzie Lieberson, and rounded out by bassist and most recent addition to the lineup Boshra AlSaadi.

Teeny (a.k.a. Kristina), perhaps best known for her stint in the indie-rock crew Here We Go Magic, founded the band in 2010, self-releasing the endearingly fuzzy Little Doods EP a year later. Somewhat in spite of its name, Teen has managed to grow up in the months since, shedding its more lo-fi tendencies and embracing a cleaner, more polished approach. Expect this more mature sound to be on full display when the band hits Double Happiness in advance of its sophomore album The Way and Color, which is due out in late April on Carpark Records.
