Staff Pick: Unwed Sailor drifts into port for a rare live performance

The “collaborators” section on the Unwed Sailor Wikipedia page is dotted with more names than the final credits in a Wes Anderson film. Guests span from Pedro the Lion songsmith David Bazan, who played drums for the crew sporadically in the late ’90s, to Josh Tillman, who manned the kit during a 2006 tour, two years before he joined Fleet Foxes and six years before he immerged in his solo guise as Father John Misty.

Though guitarist Johnathon Ford has been the lone constant in the Seattle post-rock crew since it formed in ’98, the group has remained remarkably consistent through the years. One thing it hasn’t remained, however, is productive. Unwed Sailor hasn’t released a proper album since 2008, and concerts have been scheduled sporadically at best. In other words, catch the band now because who knows when — or even if — it will return to Columbus.
