Despite the name, which calls to mind images of prisoners in black-and-white garb swinging pick axes and chanting in unison, there’s virtually nothing old-timey about the Chain Gang of 1974, the nom de rock of California based DJ/producer Kamtin Mohager.

The musician’s latest album, Daydream Forever, comes on like some 1980s vision of the future — think Epcot Center’s Future World — piling on hazy vocals (the dude sounds perpetually dazed), programmed drums and vaguely space-age synthesizers.

Blondfire also performs.
