Concert preview: Valley of the Sun keeps the pedal pressed to the floor

“Worn Teeth,” the opening cut on Electric Talons of the Thunderhawk, the excellently named new album from the hard-rocking Cincinnati trio, begins as a reserved, bluesy lament before giving way to a stampeding guitar line two-thirds of the way through. It’s one of the few times the band holds back, and songs like the Soundgarden-echoing “Gunslinger” and the riff-driven “As Earth and Moon” tend to keep the pedal firmly pressed to the floor. Careful while spinning this in your car; Valley of the Sun’s music is a speeding ticket waiting to happen.

Mama, Rosalie’s Lucid Dream and Lunker open the show.
