Staff Pick: Wanda Jackson refuses to mellow with age

After spending decades far removed from the limelight, Wanda Jackson, the 76-year-old First Lady of Rockabilly, roared back in 2011 with the Jack White-produced The Party Ain’t Over, growling her way through lively cuts like the horn-stoked “Shakin’ All Over.”

Jackson’s late-career renaissance continued with a celebrated theater tour, a stint opening for Adele (!) and, most surprisingly, an even better album, 2012’s Unfinished Business, a more-roots-oriented effort that teamed the singer with Nashville musician Justin Townes Earle. Judging from the titles of her twin comeback recordings, Jackson, who famously dated Elvis Presley as a teenager, isn’t through quite yet, and it’ll be interesting to see what musical avenue the singer intends to pursue next.
