Concert preview: Painted Palms make psych-rock safe enough for first timers

San Francisco psych-pop duo Painted Palms leans more to the pop end of the genre’s spectrum, crafting shimmering, electro-tinged tracks that come on like Animal Collective at its most tame.

The lyrics are similarly muted, and frontman Christopher Prudhomme tends to skim the surface rather than delving too deep, like strangers on a first date (“Look at my hands and look at the air,” goes one typically ambiguous line). Saint Pepsi and Wolfman & the Airship Captain also perform.
