Growwing Pains step noisily into adulthood on chaotic, cathartic 17 Songs About the Same Girl

The scrappy Detroit quartet named its latest 17 Songs About the Same Girl, and the album delivers on the promise of its title, with the bandmates bounding through 17 lo-fi-yet-weirdly-catchy garage-punk burners about a single gal. Taken collectively, the songs tell the story of a relationship taking root (“Call Me Up,” “Honey”) and then falling apart in spectacular fashion (“Break Up,” “Misogynist”), like a musical version of the battered-and-bruised Ryan Gosling/Michelle Williams drama “Blue Valentine.”

Goners, Eternally Dizzy and Wringer also perform.
