Editor's picks: 26 things to do this weekend in Columbus
Your weekend awaits, Columbus. Let it be awesome. As always, here's what I'd do this weekend, if I could be everywhere all the time.
Alive's fifth annual Rocktoberfest goes down tonight at Skully's with locals Way Yes, She Bears and The Dewdroppers. Get fresh afterwards with DJ Giovanny. There will be drink specials, someone dressed as a bear and general weirdness.
If you like your hip-hop a little weird and on that alternative tip, this show is for you. Open Mike Eagle put out one of the year's funniest rap albums in Dark Comedy. Serengeti often raps in character as a married man named Kenny who has a thick Chicago accent and loves the Bears, Bulls and White Sox. The alt-rapper has also recorded with artists as diverse as Sufjan Stevens and Odd Nosdam, the underground hip-hop producer who co-founded the label anticon and is perhaps best known as cLOUDDEAD, the lo-fi hip-hop group he formed with Yoni from Why? Columbus rapper Metro was once signed to underground label Def Jux along with local legend Camu Tao in their party-rap group S.A. Smash, while Hafrican is one of the city's latest rising talents. Four great rappers, one great venue. It doesn't get better than this.
It's fall, you know want that pumpkin beer. Get it.
