Concert preview: New Orleans Generationals cues up a carefree soundtrack on Alix

Alix, the latest from New Orleans duo Generationals, finds high school friends Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer further tightening the screws on their shimmering, synth-pop sound, bounding through polished, percussive turns like “Black Lemon” and “Reviver,” a giddy tune that could serve as an alternate soundtrack to those carefree hours Ferris Bueller spent wandering the streets of Chicago.

With winter quickly bearing down on us, snappy songs like “It Took a Minute” (a gurgling synth number that actually stretches beyond three) and the triumphant, horn-fueled “Would You Want Me,” offer one final blast of summer sun.

Lowell opens the show.
