Concert preview: Homewrecker brings the destruction on Circle of Death

Circle of Death, the latest from brutal Cleveland metal quartet Homewrecker, opens with a vocal belch that mimics the sound of someone vomiting, and only grows more violent and depraved from there.

Song like “Illusions of Peace” offer no such comfort, piling on doomy, sludge-caked riffs, pulverizing drums and demonic yowls that appear to emanate from the belly of some great, horned beast. At times, these metal-standard guttural vocals detract from the experience, but when everything clicks on songs like the razor-sharp “Skin the Pig,” the band cuts a wide swath of destruction.

Cold & Distant, Forest Wars, Youth Hostel and Adversary also perform.
