Concert preview: mewithoutYou's mix of post-hardcore and carnival-accordion tunes hits Rumba Tuesday

Philadelphia’s mewithoutYou has been making churning and staccato post-hardcore since the early 2000s. Its songs range, sonically and aesthetically, from barked emo shredders (a la At the Drive-In) to daintier carnival-accordion tunes (a la Neutral Milk Hotel).

The band has origins in the Christian rock scene, but its lyrical scope has broadened considerably to contain a more inclusive and mystical spiritual worldview, often told through album-length allegories involving animals. Its next album, LP6, is out later this year.
