Concert preview: Toro Y Moi takes another left turn with What For

Toro Y Moi, the nom de rock of Columbia, South Carolina native Chaz Bundick (a name suited to the villain in a “Caddyshack” reboot if ever there was one), arrives here in support of his fifth full-length, What For?

The album marks another departure for the onetime chillwave pioneer, who does a fair bit of time traveling on ’60s-leaning tunes that flirt with everything from acid-rock (the squiggly “What You Want”) to Bee Gees-esque pop (“Spell It Out”). Best of all? The swooning, lightly funk-tinged “Lilly,” which finds Bundick singing “no one gets nowhere” atop an airy groove that mirrors this laid-back mindset.

Vinyl Williams opens the show.
