Concert preview: Allison Weiss brings pop rush of New Love to Double Happiness

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

"I like the hurt because I like the sound," sings Los Angeles musician Allison Weiss at the onset of her third full-length studio album, New Love. But while Weiss' words might carry significant emotional heft ("I've been feeling wrong, but I'm still holding on," she cries on one tune), the music often feels weightless, arriving in a giddy wash on chiming numbers like "Who We Are" and "Good Way," a surging pop-rock cut that mirrors the adrenaline rush of staying out long past curfew.

Mal Blum, Winter and Kid in the Attic also perform.
