Concert preview: MisterWives constructs a sparkling discotheque on Our Own House

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

On MisterWive's debut full-length, Our Own House, the NYC-based collective constructs a glittering discotheque appointed in flickering funk guitars, strutting brass and the gale-force vocals of singer Mandy Lee Duffy, who has a tendency to belt out all her verses with the carefree verve of a commuter singing along to commercial radio during a rush-hour drive. Throughout, the bandmates paint with bold, bright colors, and even on those rare instances the groove slows it merely plays like a quick breather before work resumes on the dance floor.

Waters and CRUISR also perform.
