Concert preview: Purity Ring

Joel Oliphint

By the time Canadian duo Purity Ring debuted withShrines in 2012, female-fronted, R&B-injected electro-pop had already become a thing. Bands like the xx, Phantogram and Chairlift had put their stamps on the style. (A year later, Chvrches would do the same.) But Purity Ring managed to carve out a niche within a niche, creating a chilly, dubby twist on the style, which the duo further refined on last year'sanother eternity, taking its sound in a more pop-oriented direction.
