Concert preview: Soul Asylum
Joel Oliphint

No, this isn't a nostalgia tour in which Soul Asylum attempts to cash in on the mid '90s success of alt-rock radio singles like "Black Gold" and "Runaway Train." Well, maybe it is. But the band also has a new album out. Dave Pirner and Soul Asylum found more mainstream success (albeit brief) than Minneapolis scene-mates like the Replacements, but it came at a price. Many fans from the band's 1980s underdog days didn't stick around. Time will tell whether a new generation latches onto Soul Asylum.(Think twice)
