Concert preview: Pale Grey Lore

Joel Oliphint

On Columbus trio Pale Grey Lore's self-titled debut LP, the fuzz-crunch of singer Michael Miller's guitar takes center stage, giving these stoner-rock tunes a classic, Black Sabbath-inspired vibe.

With doomy song titles like "Black Sun Rise" and "Grave Future," Pale Grey Lore isn't trying to cheer you up. "Shield us from the wandering eye whose evil gaze will poison our minds," Miller sings in a way that sounds more like a demand than a plea on "Woe Betide Us."

It's not a particularly original sound, but on this heavy psych-rock debut, Pale Grey Lore has it dialed in.(Safe bet)
