Concert preview: The Gooch Palms

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

OnIntroverted Extroverts, the Los Angeles-by-way-of-Australia duo breezes through 13 largely boozy, bouncy cuts (opener "Living Room Bop" sets the tone with its mentions of sipping on vodka and lemonade). But singer/songwriter Leroy Macqueen and drummer/singer Kat Friend rarely forget these highs are often followed by lows, and there's an undercurrent of sadness that bubbles beneath the surface of songs like "Standing In Line," about the wasted minutes accumulated completing mindless tasks, before surging to the fore on the album-closing "Wasting No Time."(Safe Bet)
