Concert preview: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Legendary California funk-rockers Anthony Kiedis (vocals) and Flea (bass) have been chugging away in Red Hot Chili Peppers since the early '80s. Drummer (and Will Ferrell look-alike) Chad Smith joined up in 1989, and guitarists have come and gone, but most of the band's landmark albums and biggest hits feature John Frusciante, who left several years ago. Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer replaced him and plays on the band's 11th studio album, 2016's The Getaway.
Gen X-ers likely will always have a soft spot for RHCP hits like “Under the Bridge,” “Give it Away” and “Soul to Squeeze,” but over the years, the band's pectorals have aged better than a lot of their music and, in particular, their lyrics. To use the words of Kiedis, there's a certain doo doo doo doo dingle zing a dong bone in RHCP's songs, to be sure, but there's also an undeniable ba-di ba-da ba-zumba crunga cong gone bad.(Fans only)
