Staff Pick: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers at the Schottenstein Center

In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, Tom Petty suggested this current nationwide trek could be the last time he and the Heartbreakers mount a full-scale tour.
“I'd be lying if I didn't say I was thinking this might be the last big one,” Petty told the magazine. “We're all on the backside of our sixties. I have a granddaughter now I'd like to see as much as I can. I don't want to spend my life on the road.”
The tour, which is designed to mark the 40th anniversary of the band's self-titled 1976 debut, follows a three-year hiatus from the road — the Heartbreakers' longest, uh, break in more than a quarter century. As such, expect the musicians to be fully charged when they arrive at the Schott to tackle a marathon, career-spanning set that should include a heap of fan favorites (“I Won't Back Down,” “Runnin' Down a Dream,” etc.) alongside the occasional deep cut (earlier on this tour, Petty & Co. performed “You Got Lucky” from the 1982 albumLong After Darkfor the first time in nearly 10 years).
Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh opens the show — just don't tell Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski.
