Concert preview: Echo & the Bunnymen, Violent Femmes

Joel Oliphint
Violent Femmes

Two cult bands from the '80s are embarking on a co-headlining tour, and while both are probably remembered more for their early output, they've also managed to release new music fairly consistently for decades. English psych-rock/post-punk act Echo & the Bunnymen released Meteorites in 2014, and earlier this month weirdo art-pop trio the Violent Femmes released 2 Mics & the Truth: Unplugged & Unhinged in America, a collection of live tracks from public radio and other performances captured while touring behind 2016's We Can Do Anything. The songs were recorded with — you guessed it — two microphones while percussionist John Sparrow accompanied singer/guitarist Gordon Gano and bassist Brian Ritchie on a Weber Grill. (Safe bet)
