Concert preview: Luke Winslow-King at Rumba

Joel Oliphint

Blues music can serve as a palate cleanser — a bare-bones return to and reminder of the roots of rock 'n' roll. On Blue Mesa (out May 11 on Bloodshot Records), Luke Winslow-King wades in the wake of many, many bluesmen who came before him, but his workmanlike approach to guitar-based blues does a pretty good job of paying homage to the genre while also incorporating elements of folk, rock, soul and country, sort of like Keb' Mo' without the cheesy production choices. (Safe bet)
