Concert preview: Priests at Ace of Cups

Rick Allen

When the current dum dum in the White House was elected, it was inevitable that DIY political punk bands needed to reassess things. Naked protest is too easy, too safe a bet in such contentious times. While Priests hasn't given up on its ethics or its voice as a band, the D.C. punks' 2017 debut, Nothing Feels Natural, feels more individualized. The giant blah that most overtly outspoken bands from the Subhumans to the riot grrl scene contributed to has been avoided, as Priests has channeled its angst into the personal, and brought forth something much more interesting. It's the sort of record that may outlast whatever it is Priests was up against. (Safe bet)
