Concert preview: Malibu Stasi, Mummula, Lustkill release shows

Joel Oliphint

It's that time of year when just about every touring band hits pause, making the concert calendar sparser than usual. Locals tend to be quieter, too, but there are always a few bands that sneak in a release show just before the year's end.

Art-punk actMalibu Stasi is made up of former members of local bands such as Absolute Magnitude and Vegetative State. The band started playing gigs over the summer and this fall finished up a raucous 10-song debut,s p y, which the four-piece is releasing on cassette at a Dirty Dungarees show on Saturday, Dec. 22, alongsideKill the Hippies andWV White.

Mummula, a horror surf-punk group named after a Dracula/mummy monster mashup, teamed up with fellow Columbus rock actLustkill to release a split seven-inch single on local label Hand Pressed Records. The bands will celebrate with a release show at the Tree Bar on Friday, Dec. 21, with support from theScratches andPrime Directive.
