Concert preview: Obnox at Cafe Bourbon St.

Joel Oliphint

In October, Cleveland's Lamont “Bim” Thomas, aka Obnox, released Bang Messiah (Smog Veil), yet another category-defying album that grinds together punk, hip-hop, psych-rock and soul. As usual, multi-instrumentalist Thomas provides the bulk of the music, but this time he also enlisted the help of some friends on beats, programming and vocals. Obnox recorded this one at Electrical Audio with Steve Albini (and mastered by Adam Smith); the first track is titled “Steve Albini Thinks We Suck.” Local scab-rockers Unholy Two support this NYE show. (Don't miss it)
