Concert preview: Gladys Knight at the McCoy Center

Rick Allen

The Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight, caught some flak for performing the national anthem before the Super Bowl, in spite of the alleged NFL blacklist of protesting quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Think what you want, but an artist, and a black woman at that, deciding to honor her hometown and country shouldn't be a divisive issue. Knight has spent a lifetime uniting us under the banner of soul music, and she deserves better than that. Sometimes a love song just needs to be a love song. (Don't miss it)
