Things We Love: Picks from Tuned Up

Tuned Up contributors

Steadfast Festival, an annual music fest curated and run by the folks behind music website and podcast Tuned Up, returns to Strongwater in Franklinton on Saturday, March 9, with Mike Mains & the Branches, Shaed, Captain Kidd and more. (There's also a warmup party at Donatos Basement in the Short North on Friday, March 8; admission is free with proof of purchase of a Steadfast ticket.) Here are a few things the TU team loves.

The Joe Rogan Experience podcast

It has everything. Discourses on theoretical physics, wild tour stories from musicians and comedians, and — just last week — a nearly five-hour episode with Alex Jones. The episodes with Joey Diaz are hilarious, but you should never, ever watch or listen to them with your mom. There's a reason everyone is listening! –Ryan Getz, Tuned Up founder

SkinnyPop Sweet Cinnamon Popcorn Puffs

They're amazing. They remind of the Cinnamon Twists I used to get from Taco Bell before I got fed up with being judged by the little twerp behind the counter. – Joe Leppanen, Tuned Up podcast host and guitarist for Steadfast performer the Forty

Columbus festivals

Growing up in a small town in south Georgia we didn't have many festivals. Actually, we had one: The Azalea Festival. It was just a small festival in a park with maybe one or two local bands, typically cover acts. Before I moved to Columbus 10 years ago, I had gone to my fair share of festivals: Warped Tour, Ozzfest, Locobazooka and others. But when I moved here, it was the amount of local festivals that stood out. From about late May until mid-September you can find some type of festival here, and I absolutely love it. And they all don't necessarily include music, even though most do. I just enjoy the atmosphere and sense of community. –Ray Cobra, Tuned Up contributor

Indianapolis hip-hop

The Indy hip-hop scene has relentless battle rappers like Dead Silence, pensive poets like Jeremiah Stokes, hype heavyweights like Sirius Blvck and melodic wordsmiths like DisTinct — and everything in between. There's certainly something for everyone around the Circle City. If you don't believe me, just check out my monthly column for TU. I guarantee you'll find at least something that you like. –Topher Parks, Indy-based Tuned Up contributor
