Daily Distraction: Watch Metallica's Rock on the Range set from 2017

In 2017, Metallica headlined Rock on the Range at Mapfre Stadium, and Alive's Brad Keefe described it this way:

"For two-plus hours, Metallica put on a clinic in hard rock, swirling through three decades of its catalog with a precision that was jaw-dropping. James Hetfield and company worked a crowd of tens of thousands like it was a basement show, albeit one with lasers, fire and pyrotechnics. Fans who had waited through a weekend of trials finally got the rapture in a set that peaked with back-to-back beasts: 'One' and 'Master of Puppets.'"

Rock on the Range later rebranded as Sonic Temple, which, like most other summer festivals, was canceled this year due to COVID-related concerns. In lieu of an in-person rock fest, Sonic Temple's production company, Danny Wimmer Presents, is digging into its archives to present an online concert series, "Offstage with DWP."

To kick it off, DWP is streaming Metallica's full set on Friday, June 12, at 7 p.m. via Facebook, YouTube and Twitch. (It will also be archived at dannywimmerpresents.com.) Relive the May 2017 Mapfre experience or ride the lightning for the first time without fear of actual lightning.
