Socially distant concerts to stream or attend: July 15 edition

Joel Oliphint

Editor's note: We've entered yet another strange phase of the COVID-19 era. At the beginning of this mess, amid Ohio's stay-at-home orders, many Columbus musicians began livestreaming concerts from their homes. Lots of live-music-starved fans tuned in. Over time, though, bands began to tire of performing in front of tiny screens with digital hearts and thumbs floating by. At the same time, fewer fans were tuning in. The novelty had worn off.

Still, some local musicians have persevered and found new, creative ways to stay engaged via livestream, often through special events like online music festivals. So we'll continue to post those. Also, some national acts are performing livestream shows that benefit local venues. We'll do our best to document those, as well.

Simultaneously, some music venues, like Natalie's in Grandview, have begun hosting socially distant, in-person concerts. We intend to list only live music events that promote masks for employees and concert-goers; seated, low-capacity attendance; and social distancing between tables. That said, even with those measures in place, any in-person concert held during this pandemic comes with certain risks, and Alive is not necessarily recommending our readers should take those risks at this time.

So, take these for what they are: listings, not recommendations. And, when in doubt, stay home. Choose safety.
