Barack Obama will be making history next Tuesday when he gets sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. If you'd like a little taste of history yourself while also celebrating Obama's extraordinary ascendancy to the presidency, then the Hills Market out in Powell is definitely the place you ought to be.

On the eve of Obama's momentous day, the Hills will be holding an impressive dinner which commemorates the grand occasion by offering dishes served at previous inaugural luncheons. For an extremely fair $35, six past-presidential favorites will be prepared and presented with a suitably festive selection of excellent matching wines. Here's the lineup, followed by the pertinent president's name:

Cream of tomato soup with crushed popcorn (John F. Kennedy)

A grapefruit and avocado salad with poppyseed dressing (JFK again)

Sauteed chicken breast with white wine sauce and capers (Ronald W. Reagan)

Potato puffs (Dwight D. Eisenhower)

Chartreuse of vegetables (George W. Bush)

And for dessert, Mary Todd Lincoln's recipe for vanilla almond cake will be recreated.

To drink, the august all-American wines will be (subject to change): a lightly sparkling Schramsberg Cremant (served at many White House functions over the years); Tedeschi Maui Blanc (from one of Obama's home states, Hawaii) and a Pinot Noir from Domaine Chandon (which is a famous Napa Valley winery the current White House wine steward used to manage).

At this non-partisan chief executive soiree, The Dinner Party is the only political affiliation participants need be a member of. Well, maybe the All-Night Party will do, too. Anyway, attendees will be treated to the enticing drinks and meal as well as a fun little history lesson, a list of presidential food facts and menus from several past inaugural luncheons.
