Window Shopping: MPassion

Some homegrown sexiness and sensuality has taken root in the Mall at Tuttle Crossing, and it doesn't have any plans of stopping there.

At MPassion, the idea is to "hype up the sexuality and the romance" in a way Columbus hasn't seen before, said manager Lauren VanDeusen.

"A lot of people like the boutique setting in a mall atmosphere," she said. "It makes your shopping experience more special."

The long, narrow store sits adjacent to JCPenney and is painted in vibrant pink and orange. An oversized screen covers the back wall, which shows tropical underwater scenes during the day.

Lingerie ranges from simple to sequined, and is grouped by color scheme. Most lines offer a mix-and-match option, with different styles of bras and underwear available in the same colors. Alternate sizes are organized in pull-out drawers beneath the shelves.

The store doesn't necessarily specialize in plus-size lingerie, but offers sizes up to 44DDD in styles on par with the rest of the store. Their slogan: "Sexy for all sizes."

White lingerie sets are grouped together in the bridal area, topped off with cheeky white boy shorts that scream "bride" across the backside in rhinestones.

Smaller pick-me-ups - edible body shimmer that tastes like cotton candy, candles with wax that can be used as massage oil, dice games and novelty books - sit on tiered display towers around the store.

On one wall, MPassion keeps a full stock of its bath products, like lotions, scrubs and shower gels in scents like Green Tea, Grapefruit and Cool Breeze.

Near the back, a half-circle wall gives a little intimacy to a booth that holds clearance items. On weekends after the store closes, more chairs can be circled around to set up space for "MPassion me" parties - maybe a bachelorette party or private girls' night out.

Against the opposite wall, a shelf shielded by a short divider holds personal massagers and other toys that range from the petite to the sure-to-please.

"People seem to be pretty OK with that," VanDeusen said. "They like being able to go into a place where they're comfortable to buy items like that."

She dreamed up the idea with some friends, who decided "Columbus was missing out on something." The group plans to perfect the first MPassion location before expanding.
