Brunch season: Giorgio
Atmosphere: Inside, this comfy Clintonville Italian restaurant features ochre-painted walls, fragrant potted herbs (which get used), a grapevine mural and a set of illusionistic space-stretching trompe l'oeil mirrors hanging above a burgundy and gold banquette.
Outside, a roomy patio space is rimmed by wooden structures filled with flower boxes and views onto the pleasingly lazy Sunday traffic on High Street.
Food: In Italy, they barely eat breakfast, let alone a big old brunch; maybe that'd change if they tried Giorgio's.
I recommend starting off with the grand-slam value that is the Bruschetta Assortita (breakfast appetizers!), then moving on to the excellent Frittata Al Mare (with crabmeat, artichoke hearts and fontina cheese) or the Eggs Venetian (like Eggs Benedict, but with crispy polenta cakes pinch-hitting for ho-hum English muffins).
Sweet stuff: The Pancakes Formaggio swings for the fences and could make a reformed sweet-toother rethink their strategy. A hulking triple-stack of flapjacks is stuffed with a grown-up, semisweet strawberry and whipped ricotta cheese filling, and the whole shebang is drizzled with honey.
Don't miss: Giorgio has the best breakfast cocktail deal in town -$1 mimosas made with Cava. At that price, why not play a double header?
