CCAD international student: Seoyeon Hur

Seoyeon Hur has lived in countries all over the world.

Portugal isn't among them, but that didn't stop her from selecting Europe's westernmost nation as inspiration for her senior fashion show collection.

Her research revealed an energetic, passionate nation that she brought to life through garments in red, black and beige silk and satin fabrics and lots of gathered organza flowers that add a feminine edge.

The country choice was a random one - as many students' were - but Hur's life decisions have been strategic. She grew up in the Republic of Korea's uber-populated capital, Seoul, then attended high school in Vancouver.

When she decided she wanted to study fashion design in college, Hur didn't even consider the options available in Korea.

"I went to high school in Vancouver, so I just wanted to learn from United States too," she explained.

She found out about CCAD at a college fair. Although it takes longer - about nine hours in the air - to get home to South Korea from Columbus, she enjoys the city, she said.

"South Korea was more crowded, lots of people in one area," said Hur, whose mother and, possibly, brother will be coming for the show. "I like the crowd. It's so different here, but I like both of them."

She makes trips home about once a year, Hur said. After graduating next weekend, she'll return to Korea to get a few years of experience before returning to the United States to study fashion marketing, she added.
