Carry-Out: Chef's Case at The Hills Market

If you were a fan of Maca Cafe in Powell, you were probably as bummed as we were when owners Norman and Susan Carmichael announced in December they were closing the tapas hotspot (thanks, economy!).

But attentive Hills Market customers may have noticed a few familiar-sounding dishes popping up in the Chef's Case, like deliciously sticky Basque-Style Ribs, Paella or Torta Milanese, a baked torte with ham, cheese, peppers and spinach.

And patrons grabbing lunch on the market's Veranda might have noticed Maca specialties like Stuffed Pequillo Peppers offered as daily specials, too.

That's right, Hills has snagged the easily recognizable Chef Norman (you can't miss the tall former pro basketballer). He's been cooking up some of his old Maca favorites there since February.

"Chef Norman was a customer of the store when he still had Maca," explained Jill Moorhead, marketing manager for Hills Market, "and when he knew it was going to close, he contacted us. He wanted to work here."

P.S. If you stop by The Hills this weekend, you can also take part in their legendary Annual Salmon Roast, happening from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 29. Just-grilled salmon sandwiches and ice cream - yum.
