Fashion: Four ways to wear colored jeans

Jackie Mantey, Columbus Alive

Spring has sprung, so let's commence celebration of the colors coming our way. Jeans of various hues are sprouting up all over stores around town. Here are some ways to make them work with your wardrobe.

Pair your colored denim with flats and a long, loose neutral blouse for an easy-does-it effect. If the jeans are skinny style, try rolling up the bottoms to the middle of your shin and wearing them with flats or sandals. Some shades and a fedora are the only accessories you'll need. Chic sisters should try skinny colored jeans with high heels and a lightweight spring blazer. Or class your denim up with tops that have subtle detailing. The stylists at Thread on Grandview recommended, for example, pairing bright tangerine jeans with a lighter coral top with fabric petals around the decolletage. Mixing muted and bright tones helps keep the outfit from being too overwhelming; add pops of interest with attention-grabbing accessories or tops. Shop the look: Thread on Grandview

Express yourself by combining bright denim with a patterned top or color-block high heels (Von Maur has a fantastic selection of pumps in this awesome new trend). Sartorially say "look at me" with grassy green jeans, an animal print top and some nude stilettos. Get even crazier and reverse the trend by wearing a bright one-color top with patterned pants, like Target's new cheetah print skinny jeans. Shop the look: Delia's (Neon green jeans, I say!)

With XY chromosomes:

Donning the colors of spring on your trousers isn't a girls club. Guys can find boot-cut slacks and denim, too, which look great with a crisp black or gray T-shirt and Sperrys or Chuck Taylors. Shop the look: Saks Fifth Avenue
