Brides to be flock to Lima Bride vendor and fashion show
LIMA — Hundreds of brides to be flocked to the annual Lima Bride show at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center on Sunday, complete with a wedding fashion show and booths showcasing local bridal boutiques, venues, photographers and caterers.
Two brides who are longtime neighbors ran into one another at the event. Ricki Oen, 20, and Aly Jordan, 22, both of Wapakoneta, saw one another from across the room during the fashion show and began texting each other about the gowns women were modeling.
“We’re getting good ideas here,” said Oen, who recently began planning for her September 2014 wedding. “It’s a good experience.”
She particularly enjoyed the fashion show along with Dee Sturgeon, a motherly figure who’s been dating Oen’s father for the past five years. Oen took a picture of a lacy dress with an open back that was modelled that she’d like to try on, showing the gown on her phone. Oen is also the maid of honor in Jordan’s wedding this September. Jordan already bought her wedding gown, so she was looking for smaller details such as decorations with her mother, Lisa Jordan.
“And bridesmaids dresses,” Oen chimed in, as she gave Jordan a nudge.
Jordan said she hadn’t decided on bridesmaids dresses just yet, but she’s planning a fall-themed wedding, so she thought burnt orange dresses would be good for her wedding party.
The fashion show literally took center stage during two runs Sunday afternoon.
Lisa Moser, a Miss Ohio, Mrs. Ohio and Mrs. USA beauty queen was among the models who showed off bridal gowns, bridesmaids gowns, tuxedos and flower girl dresses. Moser and her two daughters, Cambree, 19, and Arlaina, 16, modelled many of the dresses.
“I would do it again,” said Moser, 48, of Powell, a Columbus-area suburb. “We had a great time.”
She said she was happy to visit Lima again to eat sugar cookies from Rays Supermarkets. Several years ago, she had a book tour in the area and enjoyed them back then, too.
More than 60 vendors had set up booths at the Civic Center on Sunday, including So Serene wedding venue in Wapakoneta, Ultra Sound Special Events in Delphos, Twirl Bridal Shop in Kenton and Forche’s Custom Sewing, Bridal and Fine Fabrics in Elida.
For Letitia Ware, 31, of Lima, the bridal show was the perfect jump-start in planning her May 2014 wedding. She brought along four bridesmaids to check things out; there are eight in her party.
“I’ve found some great venues that I’m interested in, some great wedding dresses and the cake,” Ware said.
So Serene, in particular, seemed like a great wedding venue for her. It’s an outdoor covered wedding reception area that can hold up to 250 people. Joy Meyer, the owner, said they still have open dates for 2013 and many open dates for 2014. They hold weddings there from May to October.
The fact that so many elements come together for one day was a little overwhelming for some of Ware’s bridesmaids.
“There’s so much to plan,” Robin Beery said.
“It’s a lot to take in,” Charity Upshaw said.
“I think I got 100 pictures,” Jessica Jacobs said.
Ware also took some notes during the fashion show. There was a cream mermaid-style, fit and flare dress that was modelled that she wanted to try on.
“It’s very helpful,” she said of the event. “It gave me a lot of great ideas.”
