Name: Betsy Stevenson for Elizabeth Ashleigh Designs
Age: 29
Residence: Ashville, Ohio
Credentials: owner of Elizabeth Ashleigh Designs, custom dressmaking and alterations
My story: I've had a love of making clothing since the 3rd grade, when I learned to sew. In college, while pursuing a fashion design degree, I realized the need for (and lack of) skilled seamstresses in the Columbus area. My business developed out of this need, simply by taking on any sewing project thrown my way. Elizabeth Ashleigh Designs is now 10 years old, specializing in couture dressmaking and alterations, with a small collection of ready-to-wear. We hope to start selling wholesale to boutiques this year.
Personal style:I'm pretty much a jeans and cute t-shirt kind of girl. I live in broken-in boots but vow never to have an evening out without my high heels!
Favorite local stores:Substance, Rowe, Thread
Style icon:Carrie Bradshaw on "Sex and the City"
Favorite designers:Chanel, Alexander McQueen
True style is… making a statement without saying a word.
Inspiration for this collection: My customers!
Biggest challenge in creating this collection:I always struggle with time constraints. So many ideas, so few hours to create! Between creating for customers and being a mommy, I'm limited on the amount of time I can commit to creating show pieces (though I admit this is a good problem to have)!
Are items shown in this collection for sale?$68 for a crochet top, up to $350 for a gown
Do you do custom work?Yes, custom dresses start at $250 and custom wedding gowns at $500.
