The Makeover: Cindy Mansfield's Deserving Transformation

Staff Writer
Columbus Monthly

Capital Style is teaming with several local style experts to transform one deserving woman in each issue this year. Meet Cindy Mansfield, a grandmother of five and a breast cancer survivor who works at Komen Columbus.

Meet Cindy Mansfield

Age: 55

Neighborhood: Baltimore, outside of Pickerington

Family: Husband, Stan; daughters Shannon, 34, Michelle, 32, and Courtney, 25; five grandchildren

Her story

Cindy has strong ties to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure: Not only is she an eight-year breast cancer survivor, but she also serves as Komen Columbus' director of finance. Her colleague, Nicolle Racey, nominated her for the makeover. "Cindy is the most deserving person," Racey says. "She is so humble and keeps us grounded. She keeps us centered and focused, remembering not to worry about the small things." Cindy has walked the Race for the Cure in the past, but has a goal in mind: When she's a 10-year survivor, she wants to run the race. "It makes it even nicer to work at Komen as a breast cancer survivor, because I know what people are going through," Cindy says. Cindy was excited to find an outfit that made her feel young. "It's been fabulous," she says. "I don't usually get the opportunity to do this kind of thing just for me. This has been my best day ever."

Hair at J.Bentley

Kara Schindler, master artist and color stylist, added both gold and red to Cindy's hair for contrast. Savannah Powers, style artist, snipped Cindy's locks into an asymmetrical cut that's easy to maintain.

Glasses from Arlington Optical

Optician Tim McNemar chose Bellinger Stella 4 bright pink frames for Cindy to wear. The titanium frames are $344 and exclusive to Arlington Optical.

Facial and Makeupat Skin Perfect

Esthetician and makeup artist Ashley Beyazian gave Cindy a rejuvenation facial, which helps with anti-aging and relaxation.

Beyazian also applied Cindy's makeup. "I wanted to enhance her natural beauty and focus on her skin with airbrush makeup," Beyazian says. She used several gray eye shadows and a pink lip to complete the look.

Tan from Bliss Airbrush Tanning

A recent summer vacation gave Cindy a natural base, so owner Abby Bowman smoothed and amplified her skin with a slightly darker color.

Outfit from Thread on Grandview

"We're getting Cindy out of her box and putting on something that is sophisticated yet comfortable," says Amber Kuehn, director of stores at Thread. Cindy wore Rag & Bone denim ($187), a Bordeaux tank ($54), a Jack sweater jacket ($83) and Figue flats ($168). Jewelry included a Lizzie Fortunato necklace ($450) and TomTom earrings ($180).
