Musings from New York Fashion Week

The runways were spectacular, the food was fab and the journey was, as always, delicious. Here are a few New York Fashion Week musings from the Spring/Summer 2015 shows… and autumn in New York.

1. Best Show: Stella Nolasco. The stunning Puerto Rican designer brought down the house with her feminine-but-edgy collection. Place was positively buzzing. I was positively awed. Here are a few of my favorite looks.

2. Close Second: Zimmermann. Australian sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann are sizzling; it's the show all the cool kids are at, and the cool kids were thrilled. Intriguing, exciting, fun. My three collection favorites? Here they are.

3. Top trends: Feminine feel-think light, breezy fabrics, and dresses and skirts galore. Lots of waistlines shown, whether with belts or midriff tops. Pastels, pastels and more pastels-shown tonally in most collections, so pink on pink, mint on mint, etc. And a ton of white, too. These looks encapsulate the vibe.

4. Best place to enjoy a drink in Manhattan: Top of the Standard. Champagne and crepes, overlooking the water and Lady Liberty… Touristy, sure (the European set love it). But definitely not shabby.

5. Best place to make love to gnudi: Saxon + Parole, which the Thread gals got me hooked on, is dreamy. Great vibe, great service, great cocktails. And the gnudi (gnocci-like pasta dumplings) will change your life.

6. Best of Broadway: Cabaret. Holy talent. The legendary Alan Cumming was phenomenal in a role that is funny and dark, raunchy and soulful. And Michelle Williams was fabulous. Girl can belt! Amazed that these folks can bring it night in and night out like they do (and in the legendary Studio 54, where there is, indeed, still a gigantic disco ball).

7. Best of Street Style: High-waisted, full midi skirts (think 1950s swing) are everywhere. They're flattering, versatile and right on trend. (I have one and am already hankering for another.) If you're looking for one fab piece for this fall, that's my pick.
