Elm & Iron Owner Opening Two New Shops
Developer Dan McClurg, owner of popular decor shop Elm & Iron (above), is opening another decor store-The Port-in downtown Powell. And he is opening a third Elm & Iron, this one in Cincinnati's trendy Over-the-Rhine district.
The Port, expected to open in November, will feature dishware and other home accessories. It will be located at the corner of West Olentangy (Polaris Parkway) and Liberty, in a 700-square foot space that adjoins with Kimberly's Diamond Corner. Currently occupied by a bakery that will move across the street, the space will be renovated to showcase the accessories, which McClurg describes as a bit more refined than what shoppers find at Elm & Iron. "It's going to be more refined," McClurg says. "It's going to be very clean." And, he noted, it will be all new (unlike Elm & Iron, which features several cool and often-upgraded antiques). Prices will range from about $20 to $100.
The third Elm & Iron (the first was in Clintonville, the second in Powell) is scheduled to open next spring at the corner of Vine and Mercer in Cincinnati. The new shop in Over-the-Rhine will be just a few doors down from where another popular Columbus retailer, Homage, is opening a store. "They have a ton of really good restaurants there (in Over-the-Rhine), but not a lot of retail," McClurg says. "It's got so much potential."
