Brides don’t have to leave central Ohio to find unique wedding dresses. Several area designers create original pieces and will display their work at the CMH Fashion Week bridal show Thursday night.

It’s a lot of work but great exposure, said Lubna Najjar of Lubna Designs.

Najjar designs custom wedding gowns and other pieces for the special occasions leading up to the big day.

“I would describe my bridal wear as very feminine,” Najjar said. “It’s not as much formfitting.”

Najjar also owns ll Moda, a public relations showroom where she promotes both her designs and others.

“There’s like a whole undercover scene where you can get couture pieces," said Joan Madison of Joan’s Bridal Couture in Reynoldsburg.

While Madison and her husband mostly sell bridal gowns and other formal wear designed by others, she also creates custom pieces for brides.

“You’re creating an art piece for that person specifically,” she said.

Madison will show off colorful pieces at the runway show, including a bright red one. Of course, the same designs could also be created in more traditional shades of white.

The second annual CMH Fashion Week Bridal Runway Show starts a 7 p.m. at the Hollywood Casino Columbus. General admission is $25.
