Piper Kerman the Guest of Honor at Fashion for Philanthropy

Jenny Rogers

Dress for Success Columbus' Fashion for Philanthropy event is back. The super-chic pop-up boutique-which benefits not only your closet but an incredible cause-will take place from April 30 to May 2 at the organization's Short North location (930 N. High St.). Oh, and a major guest will make an appearance.

Piper Kerman-justice reform advocate and the author of "Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison"-will be the special guest at the event's reception on Friday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendants-who need to preregister-will meet Piper and, with a contribution to the Dress for Success cause, will receive a signed copy of her book.

As for the fashion, the concept is straightforward: Designer, non-work apparel contributed to the organization throughout the year will be for sale at up to 80 percent off the retail price. All proceeds benefit Dress for Success Columbus. To date, this event has raised more than $35,000 for the organization's mission: empowering women.

Want to donate? Donations are accepted year-round and can include evening wear and special-occasion dresses, skirts, suits, pants, bags, accessories and more. It's the best excuse to clean out your closet.
